Kavkaz Forum. 2025. Issue 22. Abstract: The life and work of the first professional Ossetian poet Temirbolat Osmanovich Mamsurov (1845-1898) have long attracted the attention of researchers. The writer’s biographical data and creative work became the object of study in articles and essays of literary scholars and historians. The image of the poet himself, who survived the migration to the Ottoman Empire in 1865 together with other Caucasian peoples, also attracted the attention of Ossetian authors. The tragic fate of T. Mamsurov found artistic embodiment in poetic and prose genres (see the novel by M. Bulkaty «From Terek to Turkey»). The article for the first time in Ossetian literary criticism examines poems dedicated to T.O. Mamsurov. The material for the study was the lyrical works of N.G. Dzhusoyty «Suffering of a Song», «The Best of Our Ancestors!», «Testament for Ossetia», «Winter», of H.-U.N. Alborty «Temyrbolat’s Plea», of G.Z. Kodalaev «Temyrbolat’s Experience». The author of the article analyzes the image of the subject of lyrical speech. Some poems are written on behalf of T. Mamsurov himself, others are constructed in the form of a direct appeal to him. The poems of the foreground are characterized by confessionality. The main motive of all the poems is longing for the Motherland. Ossetian authors managed to pay tribute to the great ancestor, poet and patriot. The thankful descendants sound their gratitude to Mamsurov decades later in their appeal to him. The poets assure T. Mamsurov that no one considers his resettlement to Turkey a weakness or betrayal. The disclosure of the image of the lyrical hero is facilitated by means of artistic expression, in particular refrains (lexical, ring composition). Keywords: T.O.
