ARSENYEV Jiang, X. Kavkaz Forum. 2025. Issue 22. Abstract: The article examines Chinese proper names found in the works of the famous Russian geographer, ethnographer, traveler and writer Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev (1872-1930), who devoted his life to the study of the Far East. Traveling through this region, the scientist met with local residents, among whom there were Chinese. He reflected his meetings with them in his books. V. K. Arsenyev included in these texts the names of the Chinese, the names of rivers and mountains, Chinese cities, and events from Chinese history, which reflected the mottos of the Chinese emperors, which became anthroponyms. All these units have become the object of research in this article. The subject of the study is to determine the functions and frequency of onyms in texts related to the Russian-Chinese border. Some of these units have a high frequency: the anthroponym Zhang Bao has 88 uses, the oronym Sikhote-Alin has 51 fixations, including Chinese names, the hydronym Ussuri – 73 times, and the Chinese name Wu-su-li-jiang. Chinese hydronyms, astyonyms, and chrononyms are also found in the texts. These Chinese proper names reflect national and cultural specifics, indicate interaction and cooperation between representatives of the Russian and Chinese peoples, and are evidence of the history and nature of the Far East. The relevance of this study is determined by the need to study the specifics of the functioning of proper names in frontier texts. The purpose of the article is to determine the national and cultural specifics of onyms of Chinese origin in the Russian literary and scientific journalistic text. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the fact that it is the first to consider Chinese proper names that function in the Far East and reflect Russian-Chinese ethno-cultural interaction.
